Back Into The Past
Dressing Up
The Good Samaritan, we have volunteers to play the various parts, such famous names as "The Hood Family, EL Dottori, EL Cappitano", and a vicious Innkeeper.
Some characters were eventually included in later period Comedia del Arte which led to our Pantomimes
Entertainment & Games
Bands of strolling players went about the country providing entertainment. These plays are still around today, the York Mystery Plays and the Towneley or Wakefield Plays.
They would set up on carts or raised areas to provide entertainment.

The contents of these plays were well known to the audiences and woe betide any players that tried to change the script. Amongst titles included a Christmas one called the First Shepherd and a biblical play called the Good Samaritan.
Medieval Play:
On our many displays are a variety of games, toys and playing cards. Other civilian items include means of making quill pens and copies of papers and maps.

We have Poppets (Rag Babies) and Peg Babies.
Many of the items on show such as Padded Jack, Helmets, Swords, guns and clothing are placed upon willing volunteers to show how they looked on people.
